Mr. Eddie William 4/21/1931-12/8/2013

Mr. Eddie William Turner passed this life in his home, Sunday, December 8, 2013, in the presence of his loving family. He was preceded in death by parents; brother, Eleazar, Jr., and sister, Doris. After completing his freshman year at Findlay College, Eddie was drafted into the U.S. Army during the Korean War. His Army tour lasted two years. Upon his honorable discharge, he returned to Findlay College to continue his studies. Eddie also resumed his athletic career as a member of the Findlay College track team and playing football for the Oilers. He earned All Mid-Ohio honors as a defensive end during three consecutive seasons. He graduated from Findlay College in 1957 with a BA in sociology. In 1959, He joined the Toledo Police Department (TPD). He had a distinguished career, rising to the rank of sergeant. While working as a member of the police force, he found time to further his education, graduating from the University of Toledo with a BA in law enforcement in 1978. He was selected for a number of important assignments with TPD including a stint on the executive protection team. In this role, he escorted national and political dignitaries. A passionate community servant, Eddie sat on the boards of Volunteers of America, East Toledo Mental Health, East Toledo Family Center and the NAACP. He also served on the Boards of Trustees at both St. Stephens and Warren AME churches. The hard work and dedication He put into his professional pursuits, community service and athletic career have been well recognized. Loved and respected by many, he was inducted into the Findlay College Hall of Fame, the Toledo City Athletic League Hall of Fame and the Waite High School Athletic Hall of Fame. He has been honored by the Crime Prevention Association, the Toledo Professional Service Organization, the East Toledo Family Center, East Toledo Helping Hands and Kiwanis Club.

He is survived by loving wife, Jacquelyn; sons, Patrick and Edward; daughter, Kimberly; three grandchildren; sisters, Helen Smith, Mary (Levon) Howell and Darlene (Reginald) Lewis; brother, Raymond Turner; mother-in-law, Barbara Hill; sisters-in-law, Geneva (Melvin) Dowell and Debra (Semon) Thompson and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Memorial Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, December 21, 2013, at the Cornerstone Church, 1520 S. Reynolds.
