Edward J. Parker, 86, of Oregon, OH, passed away on August 24, 2013, after a long battle with cancer. A graduate of Libbey High School, Ed served in the navy in WWII. In 1948, he married his wartime pen pal, family friend Shirley L. Butler. The two were married for 63 years. Ed worked as a Toledo Firefighter, retiring in 1981. He was a proud member of the American Legion and the VFW.

He is survived by son, Tony (Jody) Parker; daughter, Joy Ellen Parker; grandchildren, Kelly (Michael) Hirsh, Abbey Rose, Jonathan Rose, Ashley (Derrick) Stout, Erika Parker; great-grandchildren, Riley and Easton Stout, Wilson Hirsh; sisters, Geraldine (Howard) Buck, Barbara (David) Starner, Rosemary (John) Wooddall. He was preceded in death by parents, Jesse and Marie Parker; wife, Shirley; daughter, Janice Rose; son-in-law, Wilson Rose; great-granddaughter, Emma Stout; sisters, Ruth (Elmer) Rahla, Virginia (Roy) Wiegand, Sarah (Ronald) Westfall.

Friends may call at the Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Road, on Tuesday, August 27, 2013, from 2:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, August 28, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home. Private interment will take place at Toledo Memorial Park. Memorials may be directed to Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
