Edwin Porter Jr.

Edwin Porter Ayres Jr., age 83, passed away Tuesday, January 29, 2013, at his home in Monroe, MI. Edwin was born August 14, 1929, in Huntington, Indiana. Edwin served in the Korean War for the U.S. Army. On March 1, 1952, he married the love of his life, Shirley Kay Small. They would have celebrated their 61st Anniversary this year. In 1980, Ed and Kay relocated to Leesburg, Florida where they lived until 2003 when they came to live in Monroe.

Ed worked for many years as a Production Control Manager for Raytheon Electronics, retiring in 1987. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching his favorite teams, the Chicago Cubs and the Chicago Bears. Before Alzheimer's started changing his life, Edwin enjoyed cooking and baking and spent many hours on his computer. He never lost his dedication to his daily work-out routine and his love of family parties and celebrations. His great-grandchildren, Tyler Jacob Bennett and Mya Elizabeth Toney gave him many happy moments as well as his beloved poodle, Bridget.

Ed is survived by his loving wife, Kay; daughters, Brenda (Phillip) Bennett, Kimberly (Ricky) Hendee; grandchildren, Christopher Bennett, Matthew (Jennifer) Bennett, Ryan (fiancée, Kelley Young) Bennett, Michelle (Theron Toney) Hendee; great-grandchildren, Tyler and Mya and brother, William R. (Ellie) Ayres. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Paul Thompson, and daughter, Tamara Lynn.

There will be no visitation. Arrangements are being handled by the David R Jasin-Hoening Funeral Home, 5300 N. Summit St. Toledo, OH (419-726-1583). There will be a graveside service at Mt Hope Cemetery, Huntington, IN on Saturday, February 2, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider a donation to the .
