Elbert Hubbard

Elbert Hubbard Thomas, 91, affectionately known as "Master," passed away July 25, 2014, at Mt. Washington Care Center in Cincinnati, OH. He was born September 27, 1922, in Sunflower, MS, Shelby County, to the late Nick and Bertha Thomas.

He was preceded in death by his two sisters, Annie Mae Byrd and Bernice Ford.

Master accepted Christ at an early age in Sunflower, MS. He later moved to Toledo, OH where he attended United Missionary Baptist Church until his health began to fail.

Master was a proud member of the United States Army. During World War II, he was a marksman, receiving two Bronze Stars and medals of good conduct.

After his military service, Master worked for many years at Gulf States Paper Corporation in Toledo until his retirement.

Master leaves to mourn and cherish his memory, a host of cousins in Toledo, St. Louis, Missouri and Cincinnati, OH, where in addition to many cousins, a special cousin, Henry Cannon and his wife, Elizabeth "Liz" Cannon reside.

Wake services will be Thursday, 11 a.m. followed by funeral services at 12 p.m. at United Missionary Baptist Church, Rev. Robert Bass pastor, interment Historic Woodlawn Cemetery.
