George Lewis Brubaker, 77, of Hamler, Ohio died Sunday morning, November 25, 2012, at Oak Grove Healthcare Center, Deshler, Ohio.

He was born May 29, 1935, in Hamler to Raymond and Elnora (Mack) Brubaker. On February 8, 1958, he married Dolly (Musser) Brubaker.

George graduated from Hamler High School in 1953 and then served in the Navy Reserves until 1955. He worked at the Ohio Air National Guard, 180th Fighter Wing, Swanton, Ohio from 1955-1990. After retiring, he worked for Miller Brothers Construction and Doug Meyer Trucking. He was also the co-owner of the former Brubaker Kordt House Bar, Hamler.

Throughout his lifetime in Hamler, George was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church, Warren L. McIntyre American Legion Post #262, a lifetime member Hamler Men's Club, and the very first lifetime member of the Patrick Henry Athletic Boosters. From 1975-1995, he served as Chief of the Hamler Volunteer Fire Department. He helped coordinate rescue efforts on snowmobiles during the Blizzard of 1978. He was an avid private pilot and enjoyed flying his Aeronca Champ airplane.

After retirement, he enjoyed seasonal trips to Haines City, Florida, where he attended St. Ann's Catholic Church. He was also a member of the AMVETS, VFW and Knights of Columbus, all of New Bavaria, Ohio.

George loved his family and spending time with them all. He is survived by his son, Jeff (Elizabeth) Brubaker; daughter, Linda (Douglas) Meyer; grandchildren, Shane (Michelle Mason) Meyer, Sheena (Geoff) Schwiebert, Seth Meyer, Saige Meyer, Shannon Meyer and Erin Brubaker; sisters, MaryLou Hoke, Beatrice (Neil) Jettinghoff; brothers, Harold (Cleo) Brubaker, Leo (Diane) Brubaker, and sister-in-law, Doris Brubaker.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Richard; sister and brother-in-law, Teresa (Bruce) Smith, and brother-in-law, John Hoke.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Friday at St. Paul Catholic Church, Hamler with Fr. Stephen Stanbery and Deacon James Schortgen officiating. Graveside services with military honors accorded by the Warren L. McIntyre American Legion Post #262 will follow at St. Paul Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00-9:00 p.m. on Thursday at Rodenberger Funeral Home, Deshler and from 9:30-10:30 a.m. on Friday prior to the mass in the church. A Rosary service will be held at 7:30 p.m. and a Fireman's Last Call Service will follow at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to Hamler Fire Department or Honor Flight of Northwest Ohio.
