Harold "Mike"

Harold "Mike" LaVrar, 65, of south Toledo passed away unexpectedly on Monday, December 9, 2013, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio on Detroit Ave. He was born September 20, 1948 to Walter "Pete" and Dolores LaVrar. A graduate of Libbey High School Mike served in Vietnam in the U.S. Army. Upon his return Mike joined the Toledo Fire Department retiring after 24 years from Station 3.

He was a member of the American Legion, Adams Twp, F.O.E. and the VFW. Mike was an avid boater and fisherman who loved his time on Clark Lake and was also an avid OSU fan.

He was preceded in death by his father. Surviving are his wife, Kay; mother, Dolores; stepdaughter, Shelby Douglas; brother, Keith (Kathy) LaVrar; niece, Melissa (Todd) Kerr, and nephew, Matthew (Jessica) LaVrar.

Friends may call at the Walter Funeral Home, 4653 Glendale Avenue on Friday, December 13, 2013, from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. with American Legion Service at 7:00 p.m. and Last Alarm Services at 7:15 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 14th at St. Charles Borromeo, 1842 Airport Hwy., Toledo, Ohio. Interment will be private. Memorials may be given to Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Honor Flight or to the Firefighters Museum.
