Herman DeBrosse Obituary


Herman R. DeBrosse passed away peacefully on July 20, 2014, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Toledo, Ohio on July 7, 1928, to Helen (Shawver) and Joseph DeBrosse. He was a 1947 graduate of Macomber High School. Herman was a Veteran of the Korean War, serving from November 7, 1950 to October 7, 1952, with the 101st Airborne Division, 2nd Battalion, 21st Infantry Regiment.

Herman and Marilyn (Haffner) were married June 27, 1953. They enjoyed a wonderful and loving 61 years together. They had four children, Michael, Peggy, Terri and Jennifer.

Herman was in sales for 20 years before opening Maumee Quickprint in 1980.

He was a 48 year parishioner of St. Patrick of Heatherdowns Catholic Church and a member of 3rd Degree St. Jude Council Knights of Columbus. Herman was also a member of the Maumee Elks and was past President of the Maumee Chamber of Commerce. He enjoyed golf, bowling, playing cards with his friends as well as traveling and vacationing with his family and friends. As an avid Detroit Tigers fan, he arranged many bus trips to Tiger Stadium through the Maumee Chamber of Commerce. For 50 years, he looked forward to going on a religious weekend retreat at St Paul of the Cross Retreat House in Detroit, Michigan.

He is survived by his loving wife Marilyn and children. Michael (Debra) DeBrosse, Peggy (Gary) Masters, Terri (Jeff) Gramling, and Jennifer (Mark) Starr. Also surviving are his grandchildren. Meghan (Eric) Ford, Katie (Nick) Kresta, Jillian and Tayler DeBrosse, Jamie (Robbie) Rego, Melissa and Jessica Masters, Kerri (Conor) Neville, Kristin Gramling (Andrew Parks), Matthew and Sara Starr; great-grandchildren. Lincoln and Tenley Rego, Michael Kresta, and Kyleigh Casertano. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother. Joseph DeBrosse.

The family wishes to express their sincere thank you to the caregivers at Hospice of Northwest Ohio and Elizabeth Scott Nursing Home. Their loving care of Herman will not be forgotten. The family also wants to say a special Thank You to Herman's longtime physician, Dr. Sarma Katrapati.

Friends may visit at the Coyle Funeral Home, 1770 S. Reynolds Rd. Toledo, OH on Thursday, July 24, 2014, from 2:00-8:00 p.m., with a Scripture Service at 7:00. Funeral services will begin in the Funeral Home on Friday, July 25, 2014 at 9:30 a.m. with a mass of Christian Burial to follow at St Patrick of Heatherdowns Church at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be at Resurrection Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to The Boy Scouts of America, St Patrick of Heatherdowns Endowment Fund or Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
