John J. DDS



John J. Fritz DDS, 91, passed away November 14, 2012, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio. Dr. Fritz, born March 10, 1921, in Louisville, Ohio to Kenneth and Marie Fritz. He graduated from Louisville High School in 1939. John was a 1943 graduate of the Ohio University College of Arts and Sciences. Upon graduation, he pursued his studies of dentistry at Western Reserve University, graduating in 1947. John served his country in the United States Navy as an assistant dental officer, and Lieutenant. He was assigned to the USS Boxer in 1949, after spending eight months at the marine base at Paris Island and serving his internship at Bethesda Naval Hospital. He was on the carrier when it arrived in San Francisco after setting a new world's record for crossing the Pacific from Japan in seven days and sixteen hours. After his discharge he moved to Toledo and opened his practice at 1838 Parkwood Avenue, where he practiced dentistry until his retirement in 1996. John had a great love for music. He played the pipe organ for many local churches. He was organist for Trinity United Methodist Church in Swanton, Ohio until his retirement in 2008.

John was recognized by the Toledo Dental Society in 1997 for more than fifty years of dedication to the dental profession, for his devotion to the healing arts and service to people. He was a lifetime member of the Dental Association, and the American Guild of Organists: Toledo Chapter.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Marie; two brothers, Robert and Kenneth. He is survived by nieces, Deborah (Jim) Crosier of Barnesville, Ohio and Candy (Dave) Kister of Charleston, West Virginia; nephew, Kenneth (Christie) Fritz of Prescott, Arizona and many other loving family members. He will be dearly missed by his neighbors, Rev. Kenneth and Shirley Dantzler; friend, Rev. and Mrs. Duane Smith; caregivers, Eula Mister, Tasha Hollis, Karen Molter and Denise Lewis.

Thanks to the staff of Hospice of Northwest Ohio. Service will be held in Louisville, Ohio.
