LaMar Franklin



LaMar Franklin Boyer, 92, of Toledo, OH passed away Sunday, January 12, 2014. He was born April 22, 1921, in Port Clinton, OH to Louis and Josephine (Witcher) Boyer. LaMar graduated from Port Clinton HS where he was recognized for his track and football successes. LaMar served our country in the U.S. Navy Reserve as a gunner's mate, first class and became a gunnery instructor at Sheepshead Bay, NY.

He enjoyed anything that involved speed including riding his Indian motorcycle, building several boats to travel on Lake Erie, snow skiing, flying a plane, and was quite a figure skater as a member of the Toledo Figure Skating Club. It was at the former Toledo Sports Arena he met Carol Clouser, who he has been married to for the past sixty years.

LaMar was a journeyman carpenter and owned his own business, Boyer Construction in Toledo. Most notably, he built a local church, several commercial structures, worked on a number of HUD projects and built his own home.

Upon retirement, LaMar enjoyed bowling, golf, and ballroom dancing with Carol in Ohio as well as in several other states and on several cruises. LaMar was a hard worker, demonstrated integrity in his business, and was a devout family man.

LaMar was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Ervindine Rogerio. He is survived by his wife, Carol; daughters, Carla (David) Huffman of Kansas City, MO, Sherry (Bob) Bartz of Kathleen, GA and Beth Caldwell of Cincinnati, OH; sons, David (Jenae) Boyer of Salt Lake City, UT, Brian Boyer of Toledo, OH and Timothy (Faith) Boyer of St. Petersburg, MI; fifteen grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 16, 2014, from 1-2 p.m. at Northpoint Church of the Nazarene, 5825 Suder Avenue, Toledo, OH. 419-726-5423. Funeral Services will begin at 2 p.m. in the church. A private family burial service will be held later. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to the Northpoint Church of the Nazarene. David R. Jasin-Hoening Funeral Home, 5300 N. Summit St., Toledo, OH 43611 is assisting the family at this time.
