Sister M. David Narog Obituary

Sister M. David, OSF 1918-2014

Sister M. David Narog entered life on April 25, 1918, and eternal life on January 31, 2014. She died at Rosary Care Center, where she had been a resident since 2001. The daughter of John and Sophia Narog, was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota and came to Sylvania, Ohio to become a Sister of St. Francis in June of 1932, professing her first vows in August, 1938, and her final vows in August, 1941.

Sister David's 75 years of service to God's people were spent primarily in education, first as an elementary teacher at schools in Michigan and Ohio, then as a high school teacher at St. Ladislaus High School in Hamtramck, Michigan and Cardinal Stritch High School in Oregon, Ohio. Sister also served as a principal in elementary schools in Ohio and Michigan and was the principal of St. Clare Academy in Sylvania for three years. Sister David worked as a Parish Minister in Ohio and Minnesota and spent her final years of ministry as Department Clerk at Lourdes College for five years and assisted in the Sisters' Business Office for six years.

Sister David was well prepared for her teaching ministry with a B.A. and B.S.E. in Education and Social Studies from Mary Manse College in Toledo, Ohio. She also had a M.A. in History from the University of Detroit in Detroit, Michigan.

Sister David enjoyed working with children and parents during her time as a teacher and principal. She taught classes in history, religion, economics, ethics and the humanities when she taught in high school. Sister enjoyed teaching such esoteric classes to her students and made them as down to earth as she could. Her Polish heritage was evident, even in her later years. She could read and translate letters she received from family and friends in Poland.

Sister David will be missed by her Sisters in Community as well as by her Minnesota relatives, her sister, Kasimira Sikora; nieces, Juliann and Marie Sikora and Diane Homa, and nephews, Thomas Sikora, David Narog and Chuck Swaggert.

There will be a Welcoming for Sister David in Our Lady Queen of Peace Chapel at the Motherhouse of the Sisters of St. Francis in Sylvania at 6 p.m. on Thursday, February 6, 2014. Her funeral liturgy will be at 4 p.m. on Friday, February 7, 2014, preceded by visitation throughout the day. Interment will be in Porta Coeli Cemetery on the campus of the Sisters. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sisters of St. Francis, Sylvania, Ohio.
