Paul D. Smith of the Point/Shoreland Community passed away on Friday, June, 14, 2013, in Hospice of Northwest Ohio at the age of 81. Paul was born to Ira and Keturah (Pearson) Smith on September 22, 1931. Paul had worked as a repairman for the Norfolk Southern Rail Road. He entered the Marine Corp in 1951 and was a Veteran of the Korean War in which he earned a purple heart. Paul was a member of the VFW Post #3265, Marine Corp League, Korean War Vets, Disabled American Vets and the Order of the Purple Heart and the Harbor Light Lodge #746 F. & A.M. He also enjoyed playing the keyboard, guitar and the ukulele for his own as well as for family pleasure.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents; wives, Shirley and Mary; daughter, Candy Taylor; 1 brother, and 1 sister. Left to cherish his memory are loving children, Sherrie "Sher-Bear" (Manuel) Gonzales, Paul C. (Lori) Smith, and John Smith, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held in Ottawa Hills Memorial Park on Saturday, June 22, 2013, at 12:00 p.m. with Chaplain Gary Heft officiating. The Marine Corp League will be presenting Burial Honors. Those wishing to make a contribution in Paul's honor are asked to consider the Mustard Seed, 5420 - 302nd Street, Toledo, Ohio 43611. The David R. Jasin-Hoening Funeral Home, 5300 N.
