Peter "Pete" Hoffman, age 94 years, died Saturday, September 7, 2013, at Sunset Village in Sylvania, OH. He was born on February 22, 1919, in Toledo, OH, and was a syndicated cartoonist for many years. Pete created, wrote and drew the JEFF COBB comic strip, illustrated the WHY WE SAY panel feature, and ghost drew the STEVE ROPER comic strip.
Peter graduated from Scott High School in 1937 and from the University of Toledo in 1941 with a BBA degree. While a UT student, he was the staff cartoonist on the college newspaper, the Campus Collegian and art editor of the school yearbook, the Blockhouse. He was also a member of ARX (Blue Key) honorary fraternity.
A four year veteran of World War II (two years overseas), Pete attained the rank of Captain in the Air Corps and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal.
His memberships included the National Cartoonists Society, the University of Toledo Alumni Association, B'Nai Brith and the Congregation Etz Chayim.
Pete is survived by a niece, Mrs. Sharyanne (Dr. Arnold) Kollin, and a nephew, Paul (Rhonda) Hoffman, as well as by great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.
Interment and services were held at Eagle Point Cemetery in Rossford, OH. Preceded in death by his sister, Mary Winer, and brother, Max Hoffman.
Memorial donations are suggested to the Congregation Etz Chayim.
