JOHNSON

Phyllis Kathryn

Phyllis Kathryn Johnson died August 11, 2014, at The Manor, Perrysburg, Ohio. She turned 87 on January 24, and had been in The Manor at Perrysburg since 2009, following complications with her health.

Phyllis and her husband of 63 years, Les, raised 10 children in a four-bedroom, one-bathroom West Toledo home. All went on to success in their chosen fields, a source of considerable pride for Phyllis. Among her children, she was dubbed Central Control Tower because she always knew where each of her children was at all times, no matter where they lived or traveled.

Phyllis was an outstanding mother, grandmother and great-grandmother well-known for her faith in God and her family. She faithfully attended Christ the King Church, until her health no longer allowed her to. The Johnson house and kitchen were open 24/7, with Phyllis overseeing cooking and babysitting duties for family members, which included 16 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Phyllis also had a sharp wit and was not afraid to speak her mind.

Phyllis was born in Toledo on January 24, 1927, to William and Anna Giles. She graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1945 and was a member of Christ the King from its founding. Phyllis married Leslie "Les" Johnson on June 4, 1949.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Les; her parents; her son, Larry Johnson; her sisters, Anna Mae Wray and Rita Hardy, and her brother, Paul Giles.

Surviving are her children, Barbara Jean (Dave) Smith, William (Kathy) Johnson, Joan Channell, John (Deborah) Johnson, Tom (Donna) Johnson, Kim (Joe) Dramczyk, Mary Ann (Mike) Ramm, Jackie (Brian) Heldt, and Linda (Rob) Tatro; daughter-in-law, Lorie Johnson, and stepdaughter, Sandy Yeager; brothers, Ray (Betty) Giles and Don (Ginny) Giles; 16 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Friday, August 15 at Coyle Funeral Home, 1770 S. Reynolds Rd. Funeral services will be at Christ the King Church, 4100 Harvest Lane at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 16, where the family will receive friends beginning at 9 a.m. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery.
