WITKOWIAK Raymond R. Raymond R. Witkowiak, 99, of Toledo, passed away February 28, 2012 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Toledo surrounded by loved ones. He was born August 30, 1912 in Toledo to the late Joseph and Mary (Schauer) Witkowiak. Raymond married Nina Terry and she preceded him in death. Surviving is a nephew, Terry (Carol) Lottes. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Thelma Thomas and Theresa Knox. Raymond graduated from Woodward Tech. and attended The University of Illinois. He was a WWII Air Force Veteran, serving as Sergeant from 1942-1945 in the Battles of Normandy, Southern France, Bastogne and Ardennes, for which his country will be forever grateful. He was awarded 1 silver medal, 2 bronze stars, and Victory and American Campaign Medals. He was a life member of the V.F.W. Post 3265. Raymond is also gratefully acknowledged as serving the Toledo area as a firefighter for 27 years, retiring in 1968 from Station # 24. Ray was the oldest living fireman from The Toledo Fire Department. Visitation will be held from 4 until 8 p.m. on Friday, March 2, 2012 at David R. Jasin-Hoening Funeral Home, 5300 N. Summit St., Toledo (419.726.1583) where funeral services will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Fr. Anthony Borgia, presiding. There will be a "Last Alarm" service on Friday at 7 p.m. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Toledo. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions are requested to the Toledo Firefighters Museum Inc. 918 W. Sylvania Ave., Toledo, Ohio 43612.
