BRATSCHI

Robert A.

Robert "Bob" Arthur Bratschi, 90, of Toledo, Ohio went to be with the Lord on August 24, 2014, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Perrysburg.

He was born on March 30, 1924, to Frederick and Florence (Granger) Bratschi. A lifelong resident of Toledo, Robert was married for 44 years to the love of his life, Melba (Carson), who preceded him in death in 1990.

Robert was a 1942 graduate of Morrison R. Waite High School, where he was a member of the swim team. After graduation he was drafted into the Army Air Corps and served in the Pacific Theater as a high speed key radio operator in New Guinea during World War II. A member of the Greatest Generation, he was proud to serve his country. His senior yearbook described him as "an all-American fellow."

After returning from World War II, Robert worked from 1946-1948 at Libbey Owens Ford and the Toledo Edison from 1948-1950. He was employed at the Sun Oil Refinery for 37 years, where he worked as a boilermaker and retired as an electrician. During his career there, he was also a member of the Fire Brigade and Fire Department. He helped to write a safety manual and served his co-workers as a union safety steward. Robert was an excellent bowler and an avid golfer, both games he learned from his father. In earlier years, he bowled alongside his dad when they were both employed at the Toledo Edison. One of his favorite memories was a trip to Tennessee where he made a hole-in-one on a golf outing with his family.

Robert was a faithful member of Calvary Assembly of God Church for over 50 years. Nothing in his life was as important to him as his family and he will be remembered as a very loving, generous husband, father, grandfather and brother.

His memory will be cherished by his three children, Susan (Danny) Ranes, Robert F. Bratschi, and Diana (Eugene) Nivens; five grandchildren, Shannon (Greg) Cox, Sean (Connie) Ranes, Chad (Kendra) Nivens, Shane (Erin) Nivens and Justin (Ashley) Nivens; twelve great-grandchildren; his brother-in-law, Robert (Billie Lou) Carson; four nieces and a nephew, and special friend, Bob Trapp. He is preceded in death by his parents and his two sisters, Virginia Boyce and Ruth "Cookie" Bratschi.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 28, at the Walter Funeral Home, 4653 Glendale Avenue, from 2-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Friday at 11 a.m. Entombment will follow at Toledo Memorial Park.

The family would like to thank Parkcliffe Community and Hospice of Northwest Ohio for their loving care of Bob. The family asks that memorials can be made to Calvary Church, 1360 Conant Street, Maumee, Ohio or Hospice of Northwest Ohio, 30000 E. River Road, Perrysburg, Ohio.
