Robert Mills Obituary

Robert William "Bob"

Robert William Mills "Bob" passed away at his residence surrounded by his family on Thursday, April 4, 2013, after a short but courageous battle with lung cancer. Bob was born March 20, 1933, in Lancaster, Ohio as the only child of Fred and Doris (Ream) Mills. He has been raised to join his Heavenly Father, parents, in-laws, William Leo and Mary Louise (Hillis) Mcloughlin, and his youngest grandson, Noah Christian Mills.

Bob was a graduate of Lash High School, Muskingum College and Indiana University, where he obtained a Masters of Business degree. Following college, Bob served in the United States Army with the Criminal Investigation Detachment in Frankfurt, Germany. Upon returning to Zanesville, he married his lifelong love Jane (McLoughlin) on October 31, 1959.

Bob was a 59 year member of the Amity #5 Masonic Lodge and had previously been a member of The Euclid Avenue Methodist Church, where he served on the Pastoral Relations Committee and was a Lay Minister. While his family was growing, he set religiosity aside and unified the family in faith by attending St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church as a non-member, where he formed a very strong bond with The Reverend Father Joseph Scordo who was the pastor at that time. He joined a group of men for a worship weekend known as Christ Renews his Parish and later traveled with a team to Philadelphia, PA to instill that same program there. He most recently regularly attended St. Mary's Catholic Church in Nashport, Ohio with his wife.

Bob was employed for 40 years at Carskadden Optical where he was a sales representative and after his retirement, remained as a sales consultant until the company was sold in October 2012.

Bob could regularly be seen attending many of his grandchildren's, nieces and nephews' sporting events. He loved basketball, stock car racing and scoring races at several local tracks. He was a man who always had a kind word and a smile who will be missed greatly by all who knew him.

Robert is survived by his wife and best friend, Jane; his daughter, Robin (Scott) Obenour; and sons, Dr. R.W. (Laurie) Mills, Perrysburg, Ohio, and Dana (Lori) Mills. He leaves a lasting legacy with his adoring grandchildren, Sarah (Adam) Martin, Kyle and Reid Graham, Justin, Eric, Zachary, Brandon and Austin Mills; sisters and brothers-in-law, Marie (Bill) Miller, Martha Watson, Kathleen (John) Dinan, Virginia Porter, Charles (Beverly) McLoughlin, Dennis (Sharon) McLoughlin, John Ambrose McLoughlin, Alan (Diane) McLoughlin, Joan McLoughlin, Shirley (Dave) Coakley, and Margee McLoughlin; he also leaves behind a very special couple and best friends, Dale and Maxine Rice, and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, in-laws and grandson, he was preceded in death by brothers-in-law, Bernard McLoughlin, Patrick McLoughlin, Paul "Jake" McLoughlin, and Steven Porter.

Calling hours will be at the Bryan and Snider Funeral Home, 2318 Maple Ave., Zanesville, Ohio on Sunday, April 7 from 4-8 p.m. and the service will also be at the funeral home, Monday, April 8 at 1 p.m. with Pastor Tom Martin officiating. Burial will follow in Mattingly Settlement, Nashport with Military Honors.

In lieu of flowers the family would like for memorial contributions to be sent to either Noah's House at 1525 Eber Road in Holland, Ohio 43528, St. Mary's Catholic Church, or to Genesis Hospice. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
