Dr. Ruth A. Myers, age 80, of Toledo, Ohio, retired Professor of Psychology at the University of Toledo, passed away peacefully in her home Monday, May 5, 2014. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, she was the daughter of Reuben and Bertha Adelstein. Ruth attended the University of Michigan for two years followed by two years at Western Reserve University where she completed her undergraduate degree and earned her PhD in Psychology. She and her late husband, Dr. Richard E. Myers, also of Cleveland, met through Ruth's father and eventually settled in Toledo. Their marriage spanned 55 years. She was a Professor of Psychology at the University of Toledo for more than 30 years and also worked at The Toledo Hospital Human Resources Department where she founded the Employee Assistance Program. She lectured nationally on the topic of stress and burnout in the workplace. She was a member of The Temple Congregation Shomer Emunim where she previously served as a board member.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard; brother, Irving Adelstein; brother-in-law, Michael Phillips; grandson, Jacob Myers, and daughter-in-law, Carol Myers.
Surviving are her sons, Robert Myers of Cincinnati, OH, David (Deborah) Myers of Toledo, OH, William (Dr. Kendra) Myers of Mt. Pleasant, SC and Dr. Daniel (Peg) Myers of Franklin, MI; twelve grandchildren, Rachel, Sarah, Ruth, Samuel, Hannah Sadie, Joshua, Hannah Lily, Evan, Max, Seth, Ryan and Keira, as well as sister-in-law, Emily Phillips.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 8, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. in the Temple Congregation Shomer Emunim, Sylvania, OH followed by interment in Historic Woodlawn Cemetery.
