Timothy Adam 1/24/1982 - 10/25/2013
Timothy Adam Ortyl, 31, of Minneapolis, Minnesota, passed away suddenly on October 25, 2013, of complications from an epileptic seizure. Born to James J. and Sharon L. Ortyl (Robbins) in Akron, OH, Tim attended St. Matthews Elementary School in Akron, then Woodland Elementary and Perrysburg Junior High Schools in Perrysburg. He graduated 7th in his class from Perrysburg Senior High School in 2000, where he was a member of the National Honor Society. He played saxophone in the band and was a recipient of the Patrick S. Gilmore Band Award and the Semper
Fidelis Award for Musical Excellence.
Tim graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology and Political Science from the Ohio State University in 2004. He received a Trustee Scholarship, and was the recipient of the OSU President's Salute to Undergraduate Achievement and the Dr. Frederick E. Lumley Memorial Scholarship.
He was a member of Alpha Lambda Delta, Phi Eta Sigma, Phi Beta Kappa, and Phi Kappa Phi Honor Societies as well as Pi Sigma Alpha Political Science Honorary and the National Society
of Collegiate Scholars. He
attended the OSU Leadership Institute, was a founding father of Delta Lambda Phi Fraternity, and the Chartering Vice-President for the creation of OSU's multicultural Greek Council. The University of Minnesota awarded Tim a graduate school fellowship. As a graduate assistant, Tim taught various sociology courses and was a contributing author of articles in the American Sociological Journal. He received his Master of Arts degree in Sociology and was scheduled to defend his PhD dissertation in December, 2013 in preparation for a position as a College Professor.
Preceding him in death was his mother, Sharon Lyn Ortyl (1952-1991). Surviving are his father, James J. Ortyl (Joy); brother, James P. Ortyl (Sarah); nephew, William Ortyl, and niece, Gabrielle Ortyl, all of Perrysburg; aunt and Godmother, Mary Alice Mawer (Dan) of Oxford, OH; uncles, Raymond Ortyl (Paulina), John Ortyl, and Jeff Robbins (Diann) all of Toledo, and Thomas Ortyl of Loxahatchee, FL, and several cousins.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 1, 2013, from 2-8 p.m., and Saturday, November 2, 2013, from 10-11 a.m. at Sujkowski Funeral Home Northpointe, 114 E. Alexis Rd., Toledo, OH 43612 (419)476-9176. The funeral service will take place at the funeral home on Saturday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Larry Vriezlaar presiding.
