Walter John Horoszewski, 100, of West Toledo, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 29, 2014.

Born on June 4, 1914, on Hudson Street in North Toledo, he was the son of Sylvester and Victoria (Kowalski) Horoszewski.

Walter attended St. Hedwig grade school. He was a member of the 91st Division of the U.S. Army, serving in Italy and Northern Africa during World War II and earning the Bronze Star. He was employed with Mather Spring Co. for 38 years, retiring in 1972.

After six years of courting, Walter married the love of his life, Angela Niedbalski, on August 27, 1940, at St. Hedwig. Together they raised four beautiful children as well as helping with the care of their numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A devout Catholic and a man of extraordinary faith, Walter dedicated his life to his family and the Lord and demonstrated his love and appreciation for all of God's creations in everything he did.

Walter enjoyed gardening and spending time with his family. In addition to serving as the family chauffer, he and Angela hosted weekly Sunday gatherings in the home they built in West Toledo. His family will never forget the wonderful meals and memories we shared.

Walter was preceded in death by his beloved wife in 2013; cherished baby daughter, Mary, in 1942; sisters, Frances (John) Dominiak, Bertha (Matt) Borysiak and Stella (Frank) Konwinski, and brothers, Joseph, Sylvester (Sophie) Horoszewski and Leo (Betty) Horoszewski.

He is survived by his children, Christopher (Mary Kay) Horoszewski of Virginia Beach, VA, and Stephen (Mary Sue) Horoszewski, Jennifer (Larry) Schlosser, and Juliane (Steven) Mitro, all of the Toledo area; eight grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and numerous special nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express their thanks to Hospice of Northwest Ohio and especially to the loving caregivers Walter has had over the past four years who became part of the family.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 3, 2014, at Holy Trinity Catholic Parish, Assumption.
