William I. Haffelder, 93, passed away on Saturday, June 15, 2014, in Spring Meadows Senior Community. He was born in Toledo on June 12, 1921, to Sarah and George Haffelder.
He was a graduate of Woodward High School where he excelled in athletics. He attended the University of Toledo and the University of Michigan. William served his country honorably in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He had a lifelong love of sports and played in the Toledo Baseball Federation and was a member of the downtown coaches as well as the University of Toledo Alumni. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by Michigan Wholesalers and Modern Materials as a building supply salesman. William was a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church where he was very active for many years.
He is survived by his loving children, Jack (Nancy) Haffelder, Susan (Gary) Miller, Lawrence (Kathy) Wissler; 10 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren; numerous special nieces and nephews who were always very close to him. He was preceded by his wife, Dawn, and 2 brothers and 1 sister.
His family wishes to extend special thanks to the caregivers and staffs at Spring Meadows Senior Center and St. Luke's 2 west for the excellent care that he received.
Friends are invited to visit from 2:00-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday in the Ansberg-West Funeral Home, 3000 W. Sylvania Ave., where funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday.
