William "Bill" John Jr.

William "Bill" John White Jr., 87, passed away December 25, 2013, at his home in Toledo. He was born March 4, 1926, in Pleasant Hill, Ohio to Libbie Alice and William John White. He was raised on the family farm in Jackson County, and graduated from Waverly High School in

Waverly, Ohio. He honorably served his country in the Navy, during WWII, as part of the V5-V12 program and was stationed on the Aircraft Carrier, Shannon. He

completed his B.S. in Zoology from Ohio Wesleyan University in 1948, and earned a Master's Degree in Genetics from The Ohio State University in 1950. He married Evelyn Turner on June 23, 1951.

Bill engaged in a rewarding career in sales of pharmaceuticals and hospital supplies for Merck, Sharp and Dohme and Abbott Laboratories. He was a longtime member of Epworth United Methodist Church, where he served as trustee, founder of the Roundtable Class, district delegate to the Annual

Conference, and chairman of Urban Ministries. He actively supported Boy Scout Troop 220 as a troop committeeman, chairman of the annual fruitcake sale and annual pancake supper organizer. He held the Knight Templar degree in York Rite Masonry, was 32nd degree Mason in the Scottish Rite Valley of Toledo, a Master Mason of Aurora Lodge #48 F&AM in Portsmouth, Ohio, and a

Noble of Zenobia Shrine in Toledo. He was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. Bill and Evelyn loved to travel, and especially enjoyed their trips to Australia,

srael, Thailand, Russia, Mongolia, and Turkey. Bill had a lifelong love for classical

music, including opera and operetta, and patronized the Ohio Light Opera in Wooster Ohio for more than 25 years.

Bill is survived by Evelyn, his wife of 62 years; three children, David A. (Betsy) White, Carol L. (Hugh) Gaylord, and William J. (Maria) White, all of Perrysburg; five grandchildren, Andrew, Ashley, Kathryn, Laura, and Scott, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond L. White, and a sister, Ruth W. Crabtree.

The family wishes to thank Hospice of Northwest Ohio and Comfort Keepers of Perrysburg for their exceptional and loving care.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, December 30, 2013, at Epworth United Methodist Church, 4855 W. Central Avenue, Toledo, Ohio 43615, with Robert L. Thomas officiating. An open Masonic Service will be held at 1:30 p.m. at the Chapel. Visitation will begin after 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Epworth

United Methodist Church.
