Richard Benner Obituary

BENNER

Richard J. "Dick"

Richard J. "Dick" Benner, age 91, of Toledo, passed away on Tuesday, September 17, 2013, at the Ebeid Hospice Residence in Sylvania, OH surrounded by his loving family. He was born on

December 15, 1921, in Toledo, OH to John and Ida (Wagner) Benner. Dick was a WWII Veteran of the U.S. Navy and member of the VFW Post 3925 in Erie, MI. He worked for the Jeep Corporation

on Overland Parkway,

retiring from the Accounting

Department after 32 years of employment. A member of the UAW Local 12, he was a Union Steward and dedicated volunteer for the Richard Gosser Local 12 Children's Summer Camp in the Irish Hills, where generations of campers knew him as the speed boat driver. He enjoyed perch-fishing on Lake Erie, puzzles, and repairing things. A regular "Mr. Fix-It", he was even known to repair things that weren't necessarily broken. Dick was able to enjoy two vacations to Aruba with his wife, Mary Ann. A loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, he cherished time spent with his family. He was a parishioner of Regina Coeli Catholic Church.

Dick is survived by his wife, Mary Ann (Gorski) Benner; stepdaughters, Barbara (Gary) Osborne, Mary Jane (Michael) Mexicott, Annette (Don) Schmidt, Kathy (Patrick) Kwapich and Judy (Adrian) Vance; sisters, Rita Albright and Dorothy (Dan) Sesavnicki; 9 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and by his first wife, Lois Benner in 1982.

Family and friends may visit on Friday from 2:00-8:00 p.m. at Sujkowski Funeral Home Northpointe, 114 E. Alexis Rd., with recitation of the Rosary at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Services will begin on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home and continue with the Funeral Mass in Regina Coeli Church at 10:00 a.m. The Lucas County Burial Corps will conclude with Military Honors in Ottawa Hills Memorial Park

I will miss my U. Dick. He was a Great Uncle. He reminded me of my Dad who passed 25 yrs. ago. I remember going to his home for visits and he would always show us his car collection. In summer I remember going over and swimming in his pool. It was so much fun. I'm glad I had such a great, fun, and loving Uncle in my life. R.I.P. Uncle Dick and tell my Daddy that his little Ladybug saids Hi and that I miss him much.My prayers are with you Aunt Maryann.

I will always remember Uncle Dick as a hip fun uncle. Going with mom and dad to visit him at his home was always a blast. Walking into his living room and seeing him laying on the floor playing pong like one of the kids was SO COOL! To be named after him has always been special to me. My family's thoughts are with you and your family Aunt Mary Ann.

My Uncle Dick Benner you will be missed. I enjoyed the years I got to know you and will never forget the lectures you gave us. Just as my dad, you were like two peas in a pod annd will be greatly missed. May your soul rest in heaven reunited with your family. Tell my dad I said hello.

Very sorry to hear of the loss of a great man. My grandfather, Don Davis, was close friends with Dick and I always enjoyed spending time with him on my visits to Toledo. Was fortunate enough to spend some time with him and my grandfather fishing on Lake Erie that I will never forget. May the peace of our Lord comfort you at this time
