John W. Austin Beloved husband and father, passed away on February 13, 2013. John was born June 14, 1939 in St. Paul, MN, and is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Karen (Karie), son Maurice and daughter Tina, sisters Joyce Mallory (Harris) and Edith Baranuk (Wally), brothers Chuck Austin (Rose) and Tom Durgin (Nina), and nieces and nephews. John graduated from the University of Minnesota with a master's degree in Forest Economics. He had a diversified employment history and retired as Director, Community Relations at Toray Composites (America), Inc. John was involved with various business communities and local nonprofit organizations, including The Friends of Stan and Joan Cross Park, LeMay Family Collection Foundation, and Frederickson Clover Creek Community Council. John had numerous hobbies, and his love for rusty sheet metal led him to restore several Model-A's as well as an Austin Ten of his birth year (1939). He was a member of the Gallopin' Gertie Model-A Club and volunteered as a docent with the LeMay Family Collection Foundation. In addition, John admired the oceanside beaches, temperate forests, and snowcapped mountains of the Great Northwest (God's handiwork). He was involved with the National Ski Patrol System for 30 years, and retired from skiing after serving as the Crystal Mountain Volunteer Patrol Director and Northwest Region Director. John had an exciting and adventurous life, and was always on the go: serving, seeking and helping others. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in John's name to an organization of your choice or one the aforementioned nonprofit organizations. Please sign the online memorial website at
