John Spiro Kalivas Passed away on April 20, 2014, in San Francisco. He was born to Spiro and Maxine Kalivas on January 18, 1939. While in Tacoma he attended St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church and was very proud of his Greek heritage. He attended Tacoma schools graduating from Lincoln High School in 1956. He was in the Marine Corp and US Army serving in Korea. After college he worked for the Federal government first at the General Services Administration then for Housing and Urban Development. He was currently retired but loved his seasonal job as supervisor for Cruise West Napa Valley Wine Tours. John is survived by his partner Anne' Quesada, two sons Chris Kalivas and Robert Kalivas and two grandsons. He is also survived by his brother Dean Kalivas and sisters Sylvia Bachman (Steve) and Joyce Griffin (Robin). He is preceded in death by his parents and son Bruce Kalivas. John loved running, gourmet cooking, traveling (especially to Cancun, Mexico) and attending Mariner's games. He was also an expert on fine wines. A private gathering will be held with his family.
