Martha (Flickinger) Simmons A much loved and gifted lady left this earth on Thursday, February 13, 2014. Martha was born in Tacoma, Washington on March 13, 1942 to Fritz and Hyacinth Flickinger. Preceded in death by her parents and husband Thomas Simmons. An only child, Martha was surrounded by many cousins, aunts and uncles. Always smiling, cheerful and upbeat, Marty, as she was known by many, was a teacher graduating from Western Washington University and joyfully taught school for thirty years, many of those years at Totem Junior High in Kent/Federal Way. Martha was also a business women owning and operating an antique/gift/ dress shop known as "The Daisy Pot" starting in Gig Harbor and later, for many years, in Des Moines. An interim shop called the "Silver Wren" on Hood Canal in Union, Washington preceded her move to another Daisy Pot opening in Shelton which she operated until retirement in 2013. Along with her beloved Tom, Martha found great joy in seeking out "finds" at estate and yard sales and traveling to many gift shows. She had a great talent in refurbishing and displaying her treasures at her shops. The family wishes to give our heartfelt thanks to the many caregivers, especially Carol Middleton and hospice, for their loyalty and love shown to Martha during the last few months. Services will be held at the "Garden" chapel at Mountain View Funeral Home at 4100 Steilacoom Blvd. SW, Lakewood on Saturday, February 22 at 1:00 p.m. A reception will be held in the "Forest" room in the main office building following the service. Arrangements by Mountain View Funeral Home. Remembrances may be shared at www.mountainviewtacoma.com.
