Sheila Carlson McConnaughey Born October 9th, 1932; passed away peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, April 28th, 2013, at home. She was 80 years old. Sheila was the first of 3 children and only daughter of Reuben C. Carlson and Miriam Wright Carlson, both of Tacoma. Sheila attended Annie Wright Seminary and Mason Junior High, and graduated from Stadium High School in the class of 1950. After high school, Sheila attended the University of Washington and graduated with a degree in business administration. She was one of very few females to graduate in business administration in those days. Sheila was a member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority ("Tri-Delta"). Friendships and human interests were driving forces in her life, and she valued her friends and colleagues immensely. She was active in the Junior League of Tacoma, as well as the Tacoma Orthopedic Guild, Nesika Club, and various other community and social organizations. Sheila is survived by her dedicated and loving husband, Gordy McConnaughey. They celebrated 35 years of marriage this past March. She is also survived by her children Susan Winters Rowe (Tom) and Jack Rutledge Winters (Vicky), both of Tacoma, youngest brother William Wright Carlson, and grandchildren Sheila and Diana Rowe and Sadie Winters. At her request, no formal services will be held. We would ask only that those who knew Sheila pause for a moment and reflect on the true value and enrichment that lifelong friendship can bring us.
