Winfield Emil Podszus Passed away peacefully at home in Lakewood, WA Thursday, January 9, 2014, surrounded by all those who loved him. Win was born June 29, 1929 in New York City to Emil and Sophie Podszus, and grew up in Brooklyn and Queens, NY. He attended the Merchant Marine Academy prior to joining the Air Force, serving as a navigator and pilot. He was a veteran of both the Korean and Vietnam wars. In 1953 Win married Greta Alma Reckeweg, and had 4 children while living in California, Texas, Florida, Delaware, and France before settling in their beloved Washington. After his retirement from the Air Force, Win pursued a career in real estate before finishing his working life with the Washington State Department of Licensing. He lost Greta in 1989 to cancer. He was lucky enough to find love again with Peggy Baste, only to lose her to cancer as well. He leaves behind his 4 children, Richard Podszus, Cherylann Minnis, David Podszus, and Steven Podszus, 4 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren. Win's last years were spent playing golf, woodworking, model building, and enjoying family and friends. He particularly looked forward to his weekly lunch dates with his best friend Tim. Win was loved and will be missed by many. A memorial service is scheduled for Monday, January 20, 2014 at 10:00 am at St. John Bosco, 10508 112th St SW, Lakewood, WA 98498.
