Chris Wilke Obituary

Chris Wilke Chris was a world traveler and together with his wife, Helen visited 139 countries, learning about different cultures. Everywhere they met many local people and fellow travelers, forming life-long friendships. He served over 20 years as a Tax Appeals Hearing Officer on the AZ State Board of Equalization where he was well-liked and respected by peers and constituents. His patience and reassuring demeanor was an asset, especially in adversarial hearings, and his vast knowledge of real estate valuation contributed immeasurably to the success of the Board. Chris loved playing bridge, especially in tournaments around the US, and even in China, and playing pan and poker at the Elks Lodge and in Las Vegas. An important part of his life each morning was visiting with friends at the local bagel shop. They affectionately proclaimed him "mayor" of their large table. Most of all, he was a kind and caring person who spent his life helping others. As a loving husband, brother, uncle, and friend, Chris touched the lives of many people, leaving wonderful memories for everyone. We all miss him dearly. Chris is survived by his wife, Helen; his brother, Nick (Dana), and sister, Karin (JP). No Services will be held. Donations can be made in his name to Peppi's House. Arrangements by BRING'S BRAODWAY CHAPEL.

Sorry I lost track of you. Loved to watch you rubbing your hands together in expression of success. Glad to see you must have done so often. I'll play you some gin and cribbage when I get there. We can discuss art, in ignorance, and you can tell me how you got to Tucson.

I knew Chris through my husband Garth Bacigalupi they were in Real Estate together in Tucson. I liked Chris very much, he had a gentle and kind spirit.

My prayers for Chris in life everlasting, and prayers of comfort for his family.

Dearest Chris, the world isn't the same without our "mayor." Miss you so much. My condolences to Karin & Nick.

Although I had only met Chris several times, I am well aware of his close friendship with my sister Francine Deutsch. As Francine died several years ago, I feel compelled to tell your family that she was so very proud to be his friend in all respects. They shared a love of Bridge and of socializing at their bagel shop. For Fran, the morning visits with Chris were an integral part of her day.

Please know that, through Fran, I often talked about Chris and his financial acumen and Bridge abilities. He will be missed by those who didn't know him well as well as all of his family and friends.

I was blessed to have the kindest, funniest brother imaginable for 58 years. In all those years I never recalled Chris speaking ill of anyone. It just wasn't in his nature. He lived completely, loved thoroughly and laughed almost-constantly. His memory will live forever in the hearts of the people who loved him. I will miss him every day until I see him again in heaven.

As an appraiser for the Pima County Assessor's Office, I, unfortunately, didn't get to know Chris outside of the SBOE hearing rooms. However, I liked, appreciated and respected him very much. His decisions, many times very difficult ones, always seemed fair to me even if a particular decision wasn't in my favor. He was a very, very good man. He will be missed immensely. I send my deepest sympathy, thoughts and prayers to Chris and his family. God Bless you, Chris.

Chris was a highly respected member of the Sabino Canyon Volunteer Naturalists since 1997. His weekly volunteer service helped to bring the wonders of Sabino Canyon and the natural world of our beautiful Sonoran Desert to thousands of Tucson's elementary age school children. His enthusiasm and sence of wonder will live on in the hearts and minds of all those he reached.

Chris is the God father to one of my children, best man at my wedding and I am proud to say my best friend. I have never known anyone more forgiving and accepting of his fellow man then him. I love him as a brother and miss him terrible. We have lost a good man God has gotten an angle. See you again someday.

It was always a pleasure to discuss travel plans with Chris and Helen. Chris' positive attitude and outlook was always uplifting.
Aida and I will warmly remember the enjoyable and engaging luncheon we shared with Chris and Helen just weeks before his passing.Chris' positive demeanor was far from that of a man facing death. His attitude, as always, was inspirational. We will miss him dearly and be there for Helen.
