Reuben and Shirley Smith Obituary
Reuben and Shirley Smith on June 4, 2014 Shirley joined her beloved husband of 68 years, Reuben, who left us on March 10, 2014. Reuben, born in 1922, graduated from Brooklyn Tech., worked at the Brooklyn Navy Yard, where he helped build the USS Missouri before volunteering for the war in 1942, where he served as a combat engineer in the Aleutians. After the war he worked at the Navy yard for several more years before starting his own milk delivery business. Shirley, born in 1926, graduated from Brooklyn College in 1946 with a B.S. and did pharmaceutical research for Pfizer until her first son was born. After all three of her boys were in school she became an elementary school teacher in Brooklyn, earning a Masters degree in administration; she served many years as an assistant principal at P.S. 115 and P.S. 242 before retiring to Oro Valley in 1987. They are survived by their three sons, David (Janis) of Alexandria, Virginia, Jesse (Karen) of Tucson and Joseph (Leslie) of New York City and four grandchildren. Arrangements by ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Avalon Chapel.
