Wayne Eugene Diehl passed away on Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at Tucson Medical Center. As a devout Christian, Wayne is now reunited in heaven with his wife Elyse and his daughter Cyndi. Wayne taught mathematics for 30+ years in the Tucson Unified School District, Pima College and the University of Arizona. Throughout his teaching years, he impacted the lives of many students who still remember him with fondness. Wayne was also as active member of Desert Hope Lutheran Church LCMC. He also spent many years of service as a Stephen minister. Wayne also served in the US Air Force as a Staff Sergeant and received the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and a National Defense Service Medal. Wayne was born in Altoona, PA on June 15, 1931 to Ava and Sylvester Diehl. Wayne married Eleanor Garber in December, 1954. They had one daughter, Cyndi Elaine. He married Marie Elyse Crawford in June, 1977 and together they raised her four children. Elyse preceded him in death in August 1996. He is also preceded in death by his daughter, Cyndi; his brother, Sylvester and his sister, Joan. Wayne is survived by his son, Sebastian James Crawford (Sheryl) and daughters, Stephanie Genteman (Scott), Tracey Anderson (Mark), Rebecca Smith (Josh). He is also survived by his grandchildren, Alan Diehl, Elenna Diehl, Taylor Anderson, Connor Anderson, Mia Anderson, Ryan Anderson, Nikolaus Crawford, Weston Kingsley, Cordero Kingsley, Ethan McCall, Priscilla Genteman, Madelyn Genteman and three great-grandchildren, Jackie, Timme and Emerson. Wayne is also survived by many loving extended family members and friends. Wayne loved to dance at the VFW, he loved Pittsburgh Steeler and Nittany Lion football. He was a U of A Wildcat football and basketball fan. He was proud and active member of the Democratic Party and the local and National Education Associations. More than anything else, Wayne loved his family and his friends. A Celebration of Wayne's life will be held on Thursday, March 13, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. at Fountain of Life Lutheran Church, 710 S. Kolb Road. In lieu of flowers the family prefers donations to the Desert Hope Lutheran Church building fund or The Walk to End Alzheimer's Desert Southwest Chapter Team Diehl.
