William David Sitton passed away on August 12, 2013. A Los Angeles native, Dave came to Tucson in 1973 to play baseball at the University of Arizona. He soon found a different sport that became one of the cornerstones of his life, rugby. During his 35 years of coaching rugby at the UofA, he mentored over 1,200 young men. Dave had a successful career in marketing and communications and was named Tucson's "Man of the Year." Dave was a two-time Emmy award-winning broadcaster. Known as the "Voice of the Wildcats," Dave broadcast for UofA baseball, football, and basketball. He worked for Fox Sports Net and was the worldwide voice of US and international rugby on ESPN. Dave worked tirelessly to honor the sacrifice made by the men and women who have served in our military. He was the Honorary Commander for the 55th Rescue Squadron at Davis-Monthan AFB, on the DM-50 Board of Directors, and ran for Congress in 2012. As a cancer survivor himself, Dave dedicated himself to helping others in their fight against cancer. He was a member of many organizations in our community including the Steele Memorial Children's Research Foundation, Catholic Foundation of the Diocese of Tucson, Pima County Sports and Tourism Association, Honor Flight, the Tucson Airport Authority, and the Tucson Pops Symphony Orchestra. He was a life member of the Tucson Conquistadores and the Centurions of Carondelet. Dave was honored to receive numerous awards for his service including: the US Marine Corps "Outstanding Citizen Citation," the Lute Olson "Scouts' Honor Award" from the Boy Scouts of America, the Willie Kane Humanitarian Award, the "Bear Down Award" from the UofA Alumni Assoc., an "Honorary Bobcat" from the UofA, and the Tucson Father's Day Council "Father of the Year." Dave is survived by his beloved daughters, Olivia Southard and Elizabeth Blakeney; his sister, Margaret Inez, and thousands of friends in Tucson and around the world. On Friday, August 16, 2013 a Visitation will begin at 6:00 p.m. followed by a Rosary at 8:00 p.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 215 S. Craycroft Road. A Requiem Mass for family and friends will follow on Saturday, August 17, 2013 at noon at the same church. The community is invited to share in a celebration of Dave's extraordinary life on Sunday, August 18, 2013 at 6:00 p.m. at McKale Center. In lieu of flowers the family wishes that donations be sent to one of the many charities that meant so much to Dave: The University of Arizona Cancer Center (checks should be made out to "UAF/UACC to the attention of the Sitton Backer Endowment at 1515 N. Campbell Avenue, Tucson 85724), Dave Sitton Memorial Rugby Endowment (checks payable to UAF-Dave Sitton Memorial Rugby Endowment c/o UA Student Affairs, 845 N.
