William Peter Phillippi Obituary
William Peter Phillippi 96, was born in Gilman, WI on November 30, 1917 to William Michael Phillippi and Odelia Bushman. He passed away in good care at the Northwest Medical Center in Tucson, AZ surrounded by his family on February 1, 2014. Bill grew up in central Wisconsin amid farming and white pine logging. As a young man he was positively influenced as a member of the CCC, Civilian Conservation Corps. Bill attended the University of Wisconsin at Madison. During his schooling he enlisted in the Army Air Corps and became a pilot, flying C-47 cargo planes in Europe during World War II. He dropped paratroopers, hauled cargo and pulled troop gliders. He was in the campaigns of North Africa, Normandy, N France, Sicily, Naples-Foggia, Rome-Arno and Germany. Upon returning to college in Madison he met his "lifelong love", Virginia Mae Ruetenik, graduated with a law degree and was married on February 7, 1948. Bill served in the FBI for several years after college and then joined with his father-in-law farming vegetables in Orwell, Ohio. For 26 years he and Virginia raised many crops and their six children. They did both extremely well. Upon retiring from the farm Bill and Virginia moved to Prescott, AZ where they continued raising their youngest daughter and proudly self constructed their own home. In 1980 they moved to Tucson, following the sun he worshiped. Bill and Virginia built a home in Sun City and lived there until moving to Amber Lights in 2012 where Virginia still resides. Bill's favorite movie: Casablanca, hero: Galileo Galilei, favorite place: Sun City Cafe. Bill was preceded in death by his sister, Iris Smith (Jump River, WI) and grandson, Nolan Phillippi. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Virginia (Tucson, AZ); son, Bill and wife, Vicki (Marana, AZ); son, John and wife, Sue (Marana, AZ); daughter, Pat Goggin and husband, Paul (Columbus, OH); son, Paul and wife, Teri (Wautoma, WI); son, Thomas and wife, Lori (Pine River, WI); daughter, Julian (Boston, MA). Also surviving are 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A Memorial will be held in Wisconsin this summer. In lieu of flowers remembrances may be made to the .
