NORTHPORT Albert Joseph Traweek, age 85, of Northport, died Tuesday, April 16, 2013, at home while being held by his loving and doting wife of 65 years, Betty Lois Traweek.

Albert was born less than a mile from his current home. He proudly served the U.S. Army during World War II. He left the area in the 1950s as many did in search of work. He found a job in Pontiac, Mich., where he started a new life and raised his three children. As soon as he was able to retire in 1981 as an inspector for General Motors Pontiac Division, Albert and Betty Lois returned to the beloved home in Northport.

Albert Traweek lived a full life. He was a member of Mount Zion Free Will Baptist Church. He was also a member of J. Collier Foster Masonic Lodge #906 in Northport, the Valley of Birmingham Scottish Rite, and was also a very proud Shriner from Zamora Shrine Center in Irondale.

He left behind a large family who will greatly miss him. He and Betty Lois had three children, Peggy Ashley (John), Betty Pearson (Kirk), and Dale Traweek. He enjoyed spoiling his eight grandchildren, Jennifer Bidock (Steve), Kirk Pearson (Mindy), Chris Pearson (Jacki), Angel Harvey (Ted), Tonya Drew (Tom), Raymond Ashley, Matt Traweek (Susan), and Colt Ashley. He was also blessed to have nine great-grandchildren, Caitlin Larson, Garrett Pearson, Clay Pearson, Sarah Pearson, Jacob Pearson, Monet Bidock, Morgan Pearson, Willow Love, and Jaxon Drew. He is also survived by a sister, Dovie Atkins of Northport.

Services will be 4 p.m. Friday at Mount Zion Free Will Baptist Church with Rev. Jerry Montgomery and Rev. Ben Logan officiating. Burial with Masonic graveside services will follow at 5:30 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Park with Sunset Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church.

The family wishes to thank Hospice of West Alabama for all their love, help, and support.
