St. Petersburg, Fla. Barry Dewayne Griffis, age 59, died Saturday, October 26, 2013, at home. A memorial service will be announced at a later date in St. Petersburg, Fla.

He was preceded in death by his father, Robert C. Griffis, Jr.
Survivors include his mother, Oletta C. Lord of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; Tina Skidmore, longtime companion and Fiancé of St. Petersburg, Fla.; his children, Michael Griffis of Clearwater, Fla., James Griffis of St. Petersburg, Fla., Karen Moore (Mark) of Daphne, Ala.; grandchildren, Reilly Moore and Colston Moore of Daphne, Ala.; sisters, Freda Griffis of Tuscaloosa, Ala., Rhonda Copeland (Mike) of Tuscaloosa, Ala., Cynthia Jones (David) of Monroeville, Ala.; and mother of his children, Joyce Griffis, Fairhope, Ala.
DeWayne was born in Gadsden, Ala., grew up in Tuscaloosa Ala. and received his Engineering Degree from the University of Texas. He served in the US Navy for a number of years. He was a Software Engineer with Raytheon for over 25 years.
He loved fishing, scuba diving, camping, gardening and tending to his three precious dogs. He was an avid football fan. He had a brilliant mind and a generous heart. DeWayne was always known for his love for family and friends and will be greatly missed by all.
