Alfred Eaton (Fred) LOUNSBURY Obituary
Age 93, of Minnetonka Passed away on June 23, 2014 Fred was born on May 11, 1921 in Superior, Wisconsin, and grew up there and in Duluth, Minnesota. He graduated from Duluth Central High School in 1939. He began his college career at the University of Arizona and later the University of Texas. After Pearl Harbor was attacked in December of 1941, Fred, like so many men of his generation, enlisted in the army. He was proud of his four years' service during World War II, serving in the European theatre. After the war, Fred completed his education at the University of Minnesota, earning a degree in Business Administration in 1947. He spent his career in the insurance business, working for the Hartford Company and later the David Agency in Minneapolis. Through mutual friends, he met and married Mary Elizabeth (Betty) Womack in December 1949. They were blessed with four children, and Fred loved them dearly. Fred and Betty enjoyed living on Lake Minnetonka and raising their family "on the lake." Fred had many hobbies and interests. He loved to garden, play tennis, go hunting and fishing. Fred treasured the natural beauty of Minnesota. Fred enjoyed many lifelong friendships. Some of his happiest hours were spent laughing and telling stories with his buddies. He and Betty often entertained friends at their home. Fred was preceded in death by his parents, William and Genevieve Lounsbury, and his four older siblings. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Betty. He is survived by his four children and their spouses: Nancy (Stephan) Plagens, Fred Jr. (Kerrie) Lounsbury, Scott (Sara) Lounsbury, and Mary (Stephen) Aldritt. He is survived by eleven grandchildren: Elizabeth (Scott) Joing, Daniel Plagens, Genevieve Plagens, Andrew, Kathleen, Megan, Caroline, and Samuel (Cate) Lounsbury, Peter (Angela) Aldritt, Emily Aldritt and Charles Aldritt. Three great-grandchildren: Micah, Owen, and Britta Joing. Funeral service on Tuesday, July 1, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Minnewashta Church, 26710 W. 62nd St., Shorewood, MN (952- 474-8995). Visitation one hour prior to service. Luncheon to follow service, in Church parlors. Interment at Oakland Cemetery in St. Paul.
