1950 - 2014 Obituary Condolences
Was born in St Paul, MN to Wilmar and Florence Huebscher Baumgartner on July15, 1950. She grew up on the east side of St. Paul, in the house her father built, until graduating from the University of Minnesota. She was baptized at Hope Lutheran Church in St. Paul, was an active member, and was married to Kurt Petersen at Hope, then moved to join him in Irving, TX where she continued her underwriting career. Kurt and Carol moved to Austin with 3M Company in 1988 and she again found work as an underwriter with New York Life Insurance in the Long Term Care group. She enjoyed many hobbies - Travel - several trips to Europe, The Holy Land, and Egypt with Hope Lutheran before marriage, and after getting married, several Choral festivals with Kurt to England (2), Scotland, Ireland, New York, Oregon, and Minneapolis. She loved to sing in her Church and community choirs, and was very skilled at many forms of needlework and beading. A cruise and land excursion to Alaska was also a highlight. After retirement in August 2013 Kurt and Carol planned several trips, and completed the first one with a cruise and visit to Hawaii in September. One of her great loves was the fellowship and service of the Prayer Shawl group at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran in Austin, as well as the Women's study group, SOTH Sisters. Her life was taken suddenly, at home, on Friday March 14, 2014 after a long fight with cancer that was thought to be under control, if not pleasant. We, her Family and Friends alike, will remember with awe and affection, her loving and gentile spirit along with her deep faith in God. She truly showed the love of God to all whom she came in contact.
