Donn CODDINGTON Obituary
Age 81 of Eden Prairie Died December 27, 2012 after a long illness. Preceded in death by parents, Forrest and Doris Coddington. Survived by Mary, his loving wife, his much loved children, Steve of Colorado and Amy of New Hampshire; sister-in-law, Nancy Barthlow; nieces and nephews, and many special friends. Donn grew up in Peru, Illinois where he graduated from high school. He went on to the University of Michigan receiving a B.A. in English literature and then to the University of Chicago where he received an M.A. in Theology. He enjoyed two careers, first as a Congregational (U.C.C.) minister serving churches in Edina, St. Paul, and Wheaton, Illinois and then twenty-six years at the Minnesota Historical Society. In retirement he shared his knowledge of history teaching a course on Minnesota history for 10 years with the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute. Donn was a voracious reader and life-long learner, enjoyed traveling, and especially liked time spent with family and friends. He was a loving husband to Mary, a caring, encouraging, and loving father to Steve and Amy, and a good friend to many. The family wish to express their gratitude to the caregivers, staff, and friends at Summit Place and to the Park Nicollet Methodist Hospital Hospice for their kindness and expertise. At Donn's request a private family celebration of his life will be held. Memorials may be sent to the: Carol Olson Diabetes Research Fund Minnesota Medical Foundation, 200 Oak Street, Suite 300, Minneapolis, MN 55455 or donor's choice.
