Rev. Edward J. SABO T.O.R. Obituary
Died suddenly on August 22, 2014, at the age of 72. A native of Conway, PA, he was born on December 19, 1941, the only child of Joseph C. and Mary K. Triska Sabo. After his studies at St. Veronica High School in Ambridge, PA, he entered the Franciscan Preparatory Seminary in Hollidaysburg, PA in 1959. He completed his undergraduate and theological studies at the Catholic University of America, Washington, DC and professed his Solemn Vows on July 3, 1961. He was ordained a Roman Catholic priest on June 8, 1968. During his fifty years of Franciscan religious life, he served the Church in many ministries as a high school teacher, parish priest, hospital chaplain, and with the Secular Franciscan Order. As a parish priest, he ministered in Minnesota, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania. In Minnesota, he served at the Motherhouse of the Franciscan Sisters, Little Falls, the Church of St. Patrick, Inver Grove Heights, and in 2010 he was appointed Associate Pastor of St. Gerard Majella Church in Brooklyn Park, MN. where he continued to serve until his passing. He was predeceased by his parents and is survived by his Franciscan Community and by cousins; Charlotte Iannessa, Janet (Larry) Zigerell, Edward (Janet) Beighey, Richard (Betty) Beighey, Joyce Ann Cranmer, Fran (Robert) Mattauch, Laraine Parish, and Andrew Operchal. A visitation will be held at the Church of St. Gerard, 9600 Regent Ave N., Brooklyn Park on Mon., Aug. 25 from 5 PM until 8 PM with a Vigil Service at 7 PM. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Gerard's on Tuesday, August 26 at 11:00AM, with a one hour visitation prior to Mass. Burial will be at the Franciscan Community Cemetery, Hollidaysburg, PA.
