George DUPRÉ Obituary

Age 87, most recently of Stockholm,WI Passed away Monday, April 22, 2013. Married 20 years to his beloved wife, Dolores, who passed away in 1972, he is survived by a family that loved him dearly: daughter Valerie and her husband Mike, their children, Mackenzie, Calvin, Shannon and Quinn; son Steven and his wife Cheryl, their children Emilee, Ashlee and Grant and his wife, Jill; son Mark; and brother Richard and his wife Ramona. Preceded in death by his father, Valentine, his mother, Annette, and his brother, Lee. He proudly served in the First Infantry Division in World War II, was awarded the Purple Heart and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He met Dolores at the University of Illinois, where George received a degree in Industrial Engineering. He was a successful inventor and businessman, who founded two companies in Illinois. George retired to a bluff overlooking the Mississippi River where he was elected to the Pepin Board of Supervisors. He served for 9 years. He loved life, his family, and his dog, Shadow, who nearly broke his heart when he passed. His favorite activities included woodworking, tinkering, reading, boating, golfing, the Ocean Reef Club and listening to jazz music. As a lifelong student of industrial design he was creative and had a penchant for clean lines and modern architecture. In later years, he loved the solitude he found on his bluff watching eagles, the many birds and other critters that frequented his back porch, and the River, itself, with all its twists, turns and eddies. He will be especially remembered for his infectious laughter and his warm heart. George's family, which is spread out across the United States, will carry his legacy forward, even though he will be sorely missed. His family will hold a celebration of his life at Willwerscheid Funeral Home, 1167 Grand Ave., St. Paul, on Saturday, April 27th from Noon to 2pm, with a sharing of memories from 1:30 to 2pm. 651-228-1006

George loved boats and boating
His first boat up on the Fox River was a wood boat that allowed his family and friends to go all over the chain of Lakes. His first fiberglass boat was next and his passion for design
led him straight to Henry Slicker who designed the Slickcraft Robalo and Tiara boat products.

A red Slickcraft 18 ft was first and it was fast and fun. His next jump was to a 23 ft Robalo he and I drove down to Big Pine Florida to enjoy at the Ocean Reef Club. Wow did that help us discover the amenities of fishing and snorkeling in Key Largo.

My family has great memories of your mom and dad and the rest of "The Gang". Whenever they got together us kids didn't get much sleep with the laughing going on downstairs. "Timmy" left us way too soon. It is so nice to hear how much your dad enjoyed his later years on the bluff by the great river. May his spirit soar.

with condolences for your loss,

Ah Mr. Dupré... We will miss you, but we will remember all the great experiences you put before us when we played as children on Pleasant Hill.

Now, many years later, as a professional designer myself, your creative insights and pursuits were an inspiration to me (and Mark) and now, as an adult, I find it humbling where they were ignited, where they came from.

You led an amazing life and as far away as we are now, you will still have a place in my memory and heart, as to what you shared with us and what you represented on this earth.

May your spirit somehow guide us all to be better seekers, believers, and doers, sharing our love, and making the world a better place.
