James F. "Jim" FINLEY Obituary
Age 80 of New Brighton Passed away peacefully March 17, 2014 Preceded in death by parents Ted and Frances Finley and one brother, John Finley. Preceded by former wife Betsy Finley, mother of Kathy (Steve)Born, Jimmy Finley, Mary Jeanne Finley, Mike (Denise) Finley, Bill (Jenna) Finley, Kevin (Sharry) Finley and survived by loving wife of 32 years, Carol, mother of Sue Bugge, Kim (Kevin) Points, Scott (Dawn) Bugge; grandchildren, Brian, Jeff, Beth, Bridget, Rachael, Kevin, Sarah, Meghan, Brooke, Kyle, Mikala, Jessica, Steven, Nicole; siblings, Marquita (Marky) Finley-O'Connor, Patrick (Arlene) Finley, Annette Finley-Ashton, Kevin (Sally) Finley; many other relatives as well as friends. Jim was born August 23rd, 1933 in St. Paul, MN. He went to Cretin High School. He served two years in the Army before graduating from the University of Minnesota and William Mitchell College of Law. He was in private practice in St. Paul and New Brighton until 1987. During this time he also served as Ramsey County Court Commissioner. From 1987 until his retirement in 2006, he served as a Court Commissioner and Referee – specializing in Civil Commitment Law. Jim "loved the law". He was well respected and looked to as an expert in civil commitment and mental health. Jim also enjoyed cooking, traveling, golfing, gardening, coaching his kids and spending time with his family, grandchildren and friends. Mass of Christian burial Thursday March 20th at 10:00 a.m. at Church of the Assumption, 51 West 7th Street St. Paul, MN 55102 with visitation beginning at 8:00 a.m. In lieu of memorials we ask that you love your family and cherish every moment. Private Interment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery
