STURLEY-LONG Jane Was born on August 6,1914. She died May 31st at Boutwells Landing Senior Living, in Stillwater, MN just two months short of her 100th birthday. Jane was the fifth child born to Jacob and Millicent Reed in Jamestown, ND. As a small girl, Jane and her family moved to White Bear Lake where her father established J. A. Reed Oil Company which the Reed family operated until 1981. A graduate of White Bear Lake High School and the University of Minnesota, Jane worked at Schuneman's department store in the advertising department. She married Rodney Francis Sturley MD in 1940. They had four daughters, Susan, Linda, Millicent, and Janet. Jane was active in Girl Scouts, PTA, St. Mary's Episcopal Church Auxiliary and PEO. She was President of the Ramsey County Medical Society Auxiliary and editor of their newsletter for several years. Rodney and Jane enjoyed a full life of civic activities, volunteer commitments, travel and quality family time. Jane realized her career goal when she organized the former Midway Hospital gift shop and became the first buyer. Rodney and Jane built a retirement home in rural St Croix Falls, WI where they lived until Rod's untimely cardiac death March 15, 1982. Jane returned to White Bear Lake where she resided for ten years. In 1991, she married Lyndon Long, a former high school classmate and close friend of both Jane and Rod. They became snowbirds living in Green Valley, AZ to escape the Minnesota winters. La Posada retirement community in Green Valley was home to Lyndon and Jane for ten years. They enjoyed many activities including swing dancing, water aerobics, supper club and the Episcopal church membership. Following Lyndon's death in 2001, she remained in assisted living at La Posada until spring of 2009 when she returned to Stillwater, MN near her home of origin, White Bear Lake. Jane Long is survived by daughters; Susan Eugster of Spokane, WA, Linda and husband, Dale Ritchie of Fairfield Bay, AR, Millie and husband, Benjamin Beall of Steamboat Springs, CO, and Janet and husband, Frank Masterjohn of Rosemount, MN. She leaves behind nine grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. Her four daughters fondly remember all the mother-daughter vacations enjoyed over the past twenty years including Hawaii, Mexico and the Caribbean. She is preceded in death by her husbands, Rodney Sturley MD and Lyndon Long, her sisters and brother, her son-in-law George Eugster and two great-grandchildren, Hunter and Hannah.A memorial service is planned for later this summer at Boutwells Landing Senior Living in Stillwater, MN.
