John E. MEYER Obituary
Of Fridley Passed away at home on Jan. 2, 2013 surrounded by family. John, or Jack, was a founding partner in 1955 of Meyer Borgman and Johnson Consulting Structural Engineers in Minneapolis. He served during WWII as an infantry soldier in France. In 1947, he received a civil engineering degree from the University of Minnesota. John served in many capacities in professional organizations, such as the American Society of Civil Engineers and Minnesota Society of Professional Engineers. He served on the school board for nine years in Fridley District 14, and on the Fridley Housing and Redevelopment Authority through three decades. He was also active as a volunteer leader with the YMCA of the greater Twin Cities. His engineering firm is responsible for thousands of Minnesota structures including many on the University of Minnesota campuses, and he has practiced as far away as China. He is survived by wife Lillian, son Ed and wife Barb Jackson of Vadnais Heights, son Don of Hollywood California, and son Ken of Breckenridge Colorado. John chose cremation. Memorial service on Thursday, January 10 at 10:00 am at St. Philip's Lutheran Church in Fridley: 6180 Highway 65 N.E. Visitation prior and reception following the service. Burial at Fort Snelling. Donations may be sent to Emma B Howe branch of YMCA.
