Lisa Ann (Williams) CALDERÓN Obituary
Age 56 Of St. Paul was welcomed into God's eternal love on Wednesday, November 20th, 2013. She was born to the late Lt. Cmdr. Leslie Williams and Rosemary "Pat" Barry on Nov. 29, 1956 in Philadelphia, PA. Lisa graduated from Derham Hall High School in 1974 and received a BA in Elementary Education and Spanish from the College of St. Catherine in 1978. In 1991, Lisa completed an MA in Second Languages and Cultures from the University of Minnesota with specialization in early literacy development. Lisa was a gifted teacher for underserved children in the St. Paul and Minneapolis Public Schools for 25 years. Throughout her career, she was a strong advocate for Latino children and families and bilingualism. She had a deep love of children and a very special ability to nurture them. This was most acutely experienced by her four children, whom she loved beyond measure. Lisa was a devoted parent, an avid sports fan and constant cheerleader. She never missed attending her children or extended families' sporting, theater, or extracurricular activities. Lisa's strong and deep Catholic faith guided her life. She loved her large Irish Catholic family, the outdoors, vacations at Camp DuNord, her family's time in Spain, salsa dancing and teaching children to swim in lakes and oceans. Lisa is survived by her mother Rosemary "Pat" Barry, siblings Laura Stone, Maureen (Chris) Odo, Tara Williams Fortune, Clare (Bill) Cizek, James (Jane) Williams, Patrick (Anne) Williams, Katie (Peter) Szyman, Michael (Jeni) Williams; four children Analisa (Branden), Cristina, Danny and Anthony. She also is survived by her granddaughter, Lucia Rose, and by her twenty-six nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made out to one of the following (in person, by mail to Tara Williams Fortune at 1479 Fairmount Ave., St. Paul, MN, 55105, or online in Lisa's name): Nuestros Pequeños Hermanos/Friends of the Orphans, www.nphusa.org, The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), www.nami.org, The Calderón children. A family visitation will be held at 9:00 AM on Monday, November 25th, at St. Olaf Catholic Church in Minneapolis, followed by a funeral mass at 10:30 AM. A lunch reception will immediately follow in Fleming Hall.
