Age 66, of Stillwater MN passed away peacefully in the company of her loving family on April 13, 2014. Lynn lived her last few days just as she would have planned them - sipping scotch, nibbling White Castles and singing "I Want You Back" with her dear family. Lynn grew up in Highland Park, attended the
University of Minnesota
and was a Gopher Cheerleader. She went on to earn her B.A. in Elementary Education from the University of Minnesota and her Masters from St Mary's University. Lynn taught in the Roseville Area Schools beginning in 1970. In 1974 she met Don Allen at Emmett D. Williams and they were married in 1978. Lynn taught at many schools throughout the district, including Little Canada School where she ended her career in 2004 as part of the fourth grade "Dream Team". She also had a special assignment one year to do Conflict Resolution Training throughout the district. Everywhere she worked she gained the respect of her colleagues and gathered new friends. After retirement Lynn tutored students who were struggling with math at Armatage Elementary School in Minneapolis. She was a master teacher and was especially effective with students who struggled academically or had challenging behaviors. Lynn was a multi-talented, smart, vivacious woman. She was athletic and loved golfing, bowling and even exercising! She loved cooking, sewing, gardening, crafting, reading, singing, and music of all kinds. She also enjoyed summer life with Don at Bayport Marina, living aboard their sailboat Kealoha for most of the summer. In 2011 Lynn and Don took a 9 month sailing trip down the Mississippi to the Florida Keys and up the east coast. Spending nine months on a 35 foot sailboat, with no arguments, is testament to their special, loving relationship. Lynn left behind her teaching legacy, a multitude of friends, a loving family and the following valuable lessons: She lived her life with the grace of a true artist. She gave more than she ever expected to receive. She smiled through the bad times and 'led the charge' for the good times. She got up more times than she was knocked down. She spread laughter and joy to all she ever knew. She made the world a better place and showed us all the true art of living. Lynn is survived by her husband Donald Allen, her wonderful children Kadi and Conner, grandchildren Ascher and Finley, whom she loved dearly, and her sisters Joan (Tom) Mears and Bonnie (Keith) Sletten (the three sisty uglers). A celebration of her life will be held on May 17, 1:00-5:00, at the Bayport Marina Club House, 200 Fifth Ave South, Bayport, MN. The family extends special thanks to the staff at St. John's Hospital for their loving and tender care.
