Rellan J. (Bob) HASTINGS Obituary
Age 96, of Lakeville, MN formerly of Coon Rapids, MN passed away on 6/27/2014. Preceded in death by wife of 63 years, Lila, in 2003. Survived by devoted son, Bruce (Deb) and cherished granddaughter, Willow. Rellan graduated from Mpls North High, proudly served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII stationed in Australia, attended business school, taught at Dunwoody Inst, resided in Columbia Heights and retired from Whirlpool Corp, St Paul in 1979. Rellan and Lila spent a lifetime volunteering for the Salvation Army, Special Olympics, Meals on Wheels, Store to Door, Union Gospel Mission, Multiple Sclerosis Society plus distributed government commodities. Bob especially enjoyed repairing toys and creating custom wooden train sets, firetrucks and doll cradles for Ruth Bennar Head Start children. Bob was recognized for his over 65 years volunteering by KARE 11 in 2005 as an Eleven Who Care. Bob was a member of the Masons for 72 years with many recognitions including the Hiram Award, a booster for the Shriners where he helped raise over $100 million for the Children's Hospital, a George Hixon Fellow with Golden K Kiwanis (he really liked making malts in their state fair booth), Distinguished Leadership Award recipient from the North Suburban Gavel Association and an active member of Salem Covenant Church, New Brighton. Rellan and Lila enjoyed traveling the world, seeing all 50 states and 33 countries. Rellan loved chocolate. Private graveside service and interment with military honors held at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery, on July 8th, 2014. "Give more than you take—VOLUNTEER."
