Richard BONINE Obituary
Passed away in his sleep on May 13, at the age of 84, after a long illness. Born in Grand Rapids, Richard learned Russian while serving in the Army in the 1950s. After obtaining a Ph. D. inRussian Studies at the University of London, he taught for a number of years in the History Department at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia. With his wife and son Richard moved in the 1970s to the Twin Cities, where he re-tooled as a computer programmer, and worked for a number of firms, including ITT, until his retirement in the 1990s. Friends in St. Paul and in Michigan (where he spent parts of the summer) remember him as a lover of sports and music, as author of self-published books on a variety of subjects, and above all as a wonderful conversationalist. At his request, Richard is to be cremated (Cremation Society of Minnesota). He is survived by his son, Michael Gibbs Bonine, who lives in New York City. There will be a small gathering in his memory in St. Paul; to be notified, contact Jim Tracy,
