Ronald J. LARSEN Obituary
April 27, 1948 - June 15,2014 Born and raised in St. Paul, Minnesota, he was the second son of beloved parents Charles A. and Ruth E. Larsen, both of whom preceded him in death. He is survived by his brother & best friend, Charles W. Larsen of Eagan, and his sister, Barbara Larsen Kuss of New Brighton. An excellent student, Ron was elected into Phi Beta Kappa in 1970 upon graduating from the U of M, where he earned a BS degree in English education with high distinction. He spent the next eight years working as a book editor for Lerner Publications in Minneapolis. After moving to San Francisco in 1978, Ron continued working as an editor for an accounting firm, a medical education company, and several advertising agencies. He also worked as a film critic for the Bay Area Reporter. He returned to St. Paul in 1999 after the death of his father, buying the family home on Minnehaha Ave. A lifelong fan of Judy Garland, Ron wrote a moving tribute to her in 2002. An avid reader, filmgoer and Scrabble player, he will be remembered for his outspoken opinions, for his culinary skills, for his mordant sense of humor . . . and for his annual New Year's letters, in which he chronicled his life & times for many years, each letter a chapter in the Book of Ron Larsen. He wrote his own obituary, planned his own memorial service, and penned his own epitaph: "He did everything the hard way—but he usually did it well!" An informal gathering will be held in Ron's honor at the home of Barbara Larsen Kuss, 1575 Long Lake Rd. in New Brighton, on June 20 at 1 PM. For further information, contact Barbara at 651-697-1274. Memorials preferred to Como Park Zoo and Conservatory in St. Paul.
