Thomas Michael ROGERS Obituary
Age 65 Died on October 30, 2012, at the University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview, while recovering from surgery. Pre-deceased by parents, Patrick and Alice Rogers and sister, Patricia Jane Rogers. Survived by siblings, James (Jacqueline), John (Lois), Mary (Peter), Margaret (Thomas), Daniel (Mary Ann), nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews, and many friends. Tom was born in Marshall, MN. A bright, strong, caring boy with a winning Irish smile, he attended Holy Redeemer Grade School. When his family moved to St Paul, he attended Cretin High School, from which he graduated with the highest academic and athletic honors. He graduated from St John's University, attended the University of Minnesota and St. Thomas University, eventually earning a Masters in English Education. He suffered from mental illness from his early 20s on, but with the right medication, his brain chemistry eventually became balanced. He was a reporter for the Highland Villager, and in recent years, coached sports teams for Apollo Resource Center of People, Incorporated. He wrote and published stories and poetry for many years. Tom had a heart for those in any kind of need; all his life he generously helped them. His politeness and generosity were genuine and simple. All who met Tom were extended the same warm greeting, had a door opened for them or a stick of gum offered them, many all three. At the end of every phone call, he always asked that his love be extended to the caller's entire family. The family would like to specially thank Dr. Bruce Hermansen for his excellent care of Tom, and to so many who gave Tom their unique affection and kindness. Services: November 3, 2012, visitation 9-10 AM, Mass of Christian Burial 10:00 AM, Church of the Assumption, 51 West Seventh Street, St. Paul, MN. A reception at the Lexington Restaurant, 1096 Grand Avenue, St. Paul, MN, follows the service. Interment at Resurrection Cemetery will follow the luncheon. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the donor's choice. 651-698-0796
