William Lund STEARNS Obituary
November 30, 1948 - July 10, 2014 William L. Stearns, 66, a life-long resident of the Twin Cities, passed on July 10, 2014 after courageously fighting cancer for several years. He was a devoted husband to Janet for almost 40 years and a loving son to his mother the late Harriet Lund Stearns. William served in Vietnam with the US Marine Corp in 1968-69 and after being honorably discharged from the Marines served in the US Army Reserve for several years, undertaking several critical assignments at the Pentagon. He was awarded 17 military service ribbons. William was a security expert for Vance International, among other firms, and provided services during several well-known labor disputes. He was a 1967 honors graduate of the Ojai Valley School and a 1977 graduate of the University of Minnesota where he captained the Chess Team. William attained an expert rating by the US Chess Federation and was Minnesota Golden Gloves Middleweight Champion in 1970. Besides his loving wife Janet, he is survived by his brother James and his nephew William, both of Falls Church, VA. Donations made be made to the in his memory. He will be buried with honors at 2 pm on Tuesday, August 12, 2014 at Fort Snelling Cemetery, Guests to enter the second gate and gather at Assembly Area 4 a half-hour prior to services.
