LAPIO, ANTHONY "TONY" E. April 3, 1933 to Dec. 22, 2012 MGySgt Anthony "Tony" Lapio passed away in Yuma, AZ, December 22, 2012. Tony was born to Ralph and Ruth (Cable) Lapio in Binghamton, NY, April 3, 1933. Tony's first duty station was at Camp Elliot in San Diego where he said to have learned to drive a tank before a car. Tony became an accountant soon after and was stationed in Honolulu, HI. His career path took him to MCRD San Diego, Camp Pendleton, Henderson Hall in Washington DC, Okinawa (three tours) and finally back to Camp Pendleton, CA. It was in Vista, CA that Tony retired after 31 years with 12 years of time in grade as a Master Gunnery Sergeant. "Once a Marine, always a Marine" SEMPER FI After a short break, he entered Civil Service as an accountant at MCRD San Diego, CA. A promotion led him to move to Yuma, AZ in 1988. Tony retired from Civil Service as the Comptroller for Marine Corps Air Station, Yuma, AZ in 2000. In the late 1960's he was an umpire for men's fast pitch softball in Virginia and Maryland. Tony was active throughout the 1970's as an Assistant Scoutmaster and Treasurer with Troops 708 and 722 in Vista. In retirement, Tony enjoyed coin collecting and time with his Tuesday morning breakfast club friends. He was an avid fan of the University of Syracuse and Los Angeles Dodgers. Tony is survived by his sons, Dan (Denise) Lapio, San Marcos and Tom (Debbie) Lapio of Carlsbad; daughter, Cindy Lapio of San Diego; grandchildren, Justine, Joshua, Christopher, Katerina, Josh, and Rachelle; great-grandchildren, Jessie, Samantha, Nathan, Isach, Mathew, and Raden. Tony was loving and generous to family and friends alike. He is loved and will be greatly missed by all of those his life had touched. Private interment will be at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery, San Diego, CA.
